A crown lengthening is a procedure that is performed for two reasons. One is to expose part of the tooth if it is broken down so that there is enough tooth above the gum to place a crown upon.
The second reason for a crown lengthening is if someone has a “gummy smile”, meaning that when they smile their teeth look short and they show a lot of gum tissue. Most of the time we can remove a little gum from around the teeth and make them more aesthetic. This is also a very minor procedure. This procedure heals quickly and results in a beautiful smile.
